This small flat disc is intended for use in an internally threaded bar. The ball is threaded down into the bar, just like a regular ball is usually threaded. It's suitable for jewelry with a gauge or thickness of 16g (1.2 mm).
The advantage of internally threaded jewelry is that the risk of damage in your piercing is reduced. With externally threaded bars, there is a possibility of scraping your tissue when you push the bar into your piercing. But that's not so easy when the thread is inside the bar.
When the disc is inserted, it will stick out about 1/16" (1 mm), as this is its height. It's available in two sizes and three different colors, as you can see in the image above. You can choose between 1/16" (2 mm) or 1/8" (3 mm) in diameter, respectively.
The disc is made of surgical steel and has subsequently been coated in PVD, a coating that lasts longer than regular coatings.
