Internal threads are always preferable when it comes to piercing jewelry. A bar with an external thread may cause tears inside the piercing when jewelry is inserted or removed. This is not the case with internal threads, where the thread is located inside the bar. This also means that the balls have a small pin that must be screwed into the bar. In fact, all the parts of this piece are unscrewable so you can replace them with other parts you may have. Note here that the bar has a thickness or gauge of 14g (1.6 mm). Therefore, a ball with a 14g (1.6 mm) thread will not fit into the bar.

The bar is 1-1/2" (38 mm) long and is called an industrial barbell. An industrial piercing consists of two holes in the top of the ear that are connected with a bar. This barbell can either be inserted from the inside or the outside of the ear. Then you will only need to insert the balls on each end.
